Partner Andrew Langsam Speaks to American Society of Mechanical Engineers About Patent System Overhaul
Patent attorney Andrew Langsam, partner in Pryor Cashman’s Intellectual Property Group, was interviewed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for its article, “Supreme Court Decision Can Change the Game.”
The article, in which Langsam is quoted extensively, discusses the U.S. Supreme Court decisions in the cases of Mayo Collaborative Services v. Prometheus Laboratories and KSR vs. Teleflex. As noted in the article, these two decisions have patent attorneys debating the implications because both are potentially game changers for mechanical engineers and especially for inventors and others applying for and holding patents.
According to Langsam, the impact of those decisions can take time to filter down through the judicial system. Moreover, since there is no grandfathering under patent law, they can lead to a reversal of decisions about any patents issued even long ago if they are challenged.
