We are creators, supporters, protectors and connectors.
We see the world beyond law.
Pryor Cashman is people. Dedicated people. Collegial people. Bright people. Exceptional people. People of many different backgrounds and many different personalities. This is the way it has been since 1963 and this is the way it is today. Working together, we have created a great law firm, a source of pride to all of us - characterized always by a spirit of cooperation and kinship.
For me personally, it is that continuing personality of the firm that has made coming to work for 50 years a privilege and a great delight.
Pryor Cashman is among a handful of firms that is actively engaged in and helping to shape the emerging marketplace for digital currency.
- Brian Stoeckert, Managing Director, Stratis Advisory
Bitcoin is fast becoming an internet phenomenon. The virtual currency is used in tens of thousands of transactions every day to pay for a host of goods and services - from sandwiches to high-end services. Pryor Cashman attorneys are on the leading edge of this uncharted area of finance and law, and are sought-after thought leaders on the Bitcoin phenomenon.
We support our attorneys in stepping up for leadership roles in charitable, cultural and civic organizations in their own communities and in those communities with the greatest need for volunteer and pro bono legal services. We are a proud member of New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, which refers pro bono matters to our attorneys in diverse practice areas, including both litigation and non-litigation matters.
The Best of Both Worlds
Pryor Cashman is the perfect mix -- of a sufficient size to have all desirable resources available while also having a “boutique” feel that ensures personal service, and a focus on getting the legal work done efficiently and effectively.

Intellectual Property Litigation
Our Intellectual Property Litigation practice has won seminal trademark and copyright cases for media giants, international celebrities and major corporations such as EMI Music Publishing, Lion's Gate Entertainment, Lady Gaga, Richemont and Honda.
Some of our cases have become the “gold standard” for addressing conflicts between IP rights and the First Amendment. Our Digital Media Group has been especially instrumental and establishing the boundary of liability regarding the reproduction and distribution of copyrighted content via new digital platforms.
Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School
Pryor Cashman supports the Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School, a school serving low-income and minority youth in Brooklyn, NY. Through the school’s Corporate Work Study Program, students work full-time one day a week where they gain real world experience and connect with professional role models. The other four days are packed with challenging schoolwork - including two sections of Math and English each day. The income they earn through the work/study program is disbursed directly to the school, defraying 60% of the student’s education cost. Each year Pryor Cashman employs five of the school’s students as interns.
“At a time when dropout rates among low-income urban high school students are alarmingly high, Pryor Cashman decided to be part of the solution,” said Eric Hellige, chair of the Corporate Group and a board member of the school. “The Cristo Rey program clearly works - 100% of the school’s first senior class graduated last year and were offered opportunities to pursue advanced degrees, with an average of six college acceptances each.”
"Not only does Pryor Cashman have a platform which enables attorneys to deliver quality and true value to our clients, but it has people with a warmth and generosity of spirit which makes even the most recent lateral attorney feel as though they have spent their entire career here. With a constantly expanding roster of practice areas, clients quickly realize that they are being taken care of by a full-service firm, with the emphasis being on the concept of service. This is a firm which above all sincerely values its relationships."

U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers
Pryor Cashman was recognized as a “Best Law Firm” in nine different practice areas by U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers.
Pryor Cashman offers clients comprehensive guidance on all aspects of cross-border transactions, business operations and management. We counsel clients as they secure capital, grow their businesses across national boundaries and enter global markets.
Many of our lawyers speak our clients’ native languages, some studied law abroad and are admitted to practice abroad, and others lived or worked abroad. This enables us to anticipate, identify and overcome cultural differences and communication obstacles that can impact how smoothly and efficiently deals are negotiated and disputes resolved.
National Law Journal
Pryor Cashman is proud to announce that the firm has been named to the National Law Journal’s 2015 "Midsize Hot List." This is the third time since 2009 that Pryor Cashman has received this recognition.
The National Law Journal singled out Pryor Cashman for the steady stream of dynamic younger lawyers joining the partnership ranks. As noted by Managing Partner Ronald Shechtman, "We are a firm that is getting younger. That is particularly important for midsize firms." Some of these junior partners are ‘homegrown,’ having come up through the ranks, and some are coming from other firms, attracted to an environment that allows them a lot of latitude to build sizeable books of business.
The National Law Journal notes that this younger energy is complemented by the firm’s commitment to growing practices in emerging industries and areas. As one example, through the firm’s work in the entertainment, technology and investment arenas, Pryor Cashman recognized early on the transformation of intellectual property rights management, transactions and litigation as a result of the rise of digital media. The firm’s Digital Media Group handles digital licensing and copyright protection for a wide array of clients, from entrepreneurs and start-ups to blue chip companies and international celebrities.
For the Midsize Hot List, National Law Journal readers nominate law firms with between 51 and 150 attorneys that excel at deal making, litigation, counseling and other legal services. The highlighted firms are also included because they implement creative strategies to stay competitive with larger law firms, their cultures attract and retain top talent, and they take pains to understand and serve their clients' needs.
We have grown steadily over the years, adding new lawyers and creating new practice areas. During that time, we have always stayed true to our most core values – to strive to be the best, and not the biggest, firm; to foster a culture that respects individuality and encourages innovation; and to practice with sound judgment and common sense.
"During my summer at Pryor Cashman I had the opportunity to contribute to a number of different cases and projects, and wasn’t just given busy work between cocktail parties. Having meaningful working relationships with people in the litigation group before I joined the firm full time made the transition from law student to lawyer much easier. Because I had worked substantively on the cases as a summer, I was able to jump right in."
- Leighton Dellinger, Associate, Summer Class of 2011
