Partner Joshua Zuckerberg Quoted in Forbes Article About Taking Time Off for Relationship Issues
Forbes.com featured an article on March 31, 2010 entitled “Time Off Work For A Breakup?” The article discusses how the corporate workplace treats those who take time off as a result of divorce, breakup or even general relationship turmoil and distinguishes between those office absences related to health issues.
Pryor Cashman Labor Partner Joshua Zuckerberg was interviewed for the article and told Forbes that the tide may be shifting. The human rights laws in some states and cities require that employers must accommodate reasonable requests due to mental anxiety, and those laws are beginning to be interpreted more broadly. Zuckerberg observed that “mental suffering is getting closer to being a covered disability,” although emotional distress is not protected in the clear-cut way that, for example, blindness is.
