Partner James Janowitz Quoted in The Hollywood Reporter on Implications of "Muslims" Ruling

Partner James Janowitz, chair of the Entertainment Group, was quoted in The Hollywood Reporter article, “Hollywood Experts Divided on Implications of ‘Muslims’ Ruling.”

The article discusses how the Ninth Circuit ruling in the Garcia v. Google case will effect the entertainment industry. The Court ruled that an actor’s performance is protected independent of the copyright in the script and the movie itself.

While some industry players anticipate an uptick in litigation as a result of the ruling, Janowitz believes “there’s no need to get too worried about this decision.” He suggests the simple solution of including a sentence in an actor’s agreement so that the actor waives any copyright interest that may exist in his performance.
