Stein Acts as Counsel to Emmy Award Winning and Nominated Films “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief “ and “Sinatra: All Or Nothing At All”
Counsel Robert Stein, the leader of Pryor Cashman’s Publishing practice and a member of the firm’s Media & Entertainment and Intellectual Property Groups, regularly represents producers in the pre-release review of screenplays and documentary films. Stein also assists insurers in determining whether various motion picture and television productions can be insured and makes recommendations to underwriters regarding coverage exclusions and special deductibles for E&O (Errors & Omissions) policies.
Stein recently acted as E&O Counsel for Jigsaw Productions on two documentaries which appeared on HBO and received a total of eight Emmy Award nominations:
- “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief,” which provided an in-depth look at the inner-workings of the Church of Scientology and received seven Emmy nominations; and
- “Sinatra: All or Nothing At All,” about the life of the legendary Frank Sinatra, which received one nomination.
To date the film has won four Primetime Emmy Awards (including the Emmy for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special) and an Online Film & Television Association Award. In addition, the film was recently shortlisted for nomination for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

- “Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine”, a look at the personal and private life of the late Apple CEO, Steve Jobs
- “Mr. Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown,” about the Godfather of Soul.
