Langsam Discusses Spears, Timberlake Patent Victory with Law360
On the heels of a recent victory for clients Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, Pryor Cashman Patent Litigation Co-Chair Andrew Langsam, spoke with Law360 about the federal court’s decision to reinstate a substantial, once-vacated, award for attorneys’ fees.
Finding that Timberlake and Spears were owed the fees arising from a seven-year patent infringement case due to the “exceptional” nature of the action, U.S. District Judge Manuel L. Real ruled that the price of Langsam’s legal services was reasonable based on other rates in the Los Angeles area, but called for the pop stars to “justify the amount of time and the attorneys’ rates for their work on the case.”
In their motion for attorneys’ fees, Spears and Timberlake requested nearly $756,000 in fees, as well as approximately $23,000 in costs.
Speaking to Law360, Langsam explained, “This [matter] was never overstaffed. I put a lot of my personal time into this case, and I did have help. We basically won on every issue, and we’re entitled to, we think, 100 percent of the attorneys’ fees we sought.”
