For the eighth consecutive year, Pryor Cashman has been ranked among the nation’s top law firms by Chambers USA 2016.  The firm’s Media + Entertainment, Immigration and Intellectual Property Groups were recognized for their exceptional work and distinction within their fields, while six attorneys were singled out for their prominence and achievements in their practice areas.

Group Awards

Returning to the list was the firm’s Media + Entertainment: Entertainment Litigation Group, highlighted for its "enviable list of performers, as well as major recording companies and film studios."

Also featured was the Immigration Group - having moved up one tier from last year’s rankings.  The Group was acclaimed as a “strong team housed within a full service firm” with “national and multinational corporate clients across an expansive array of industries including transportation, entertainment, fashion, financial services and technology.”  Chambers also recognized their “specialty in sports immigration law.”

Rounding out the group awards was the Intellectual Property: Trademark and Copyright Group, touted for its “high-profile clients in the world of music and entertainment” and “growing reputation for work involving virtual currencies.”  On the digital side, Chambers noted the Group’s routine engagement for “online rights enforcement” and “strong digital rights expertise.”

Attorney Honors

Taking top-tier individual honors was Partner Avram Morell, whose singular work in Immigration law earned him a preeminent New York ranking: “Morell is highly respected in the market for his creative solutions to complex immigration matters [and] his adroit handling of multinational corporations’ immigration needs.”

Morell was also ranked nationally, where he was described by one impressed client as a “pragmatic” and “flexible” lawyer who “knows and understands our business and company.”

Two Chambers mainstays, Partner Donald Zakarin, chair of the firm’s Litigation Group, and Partner Brad D. Rose, chair of the Intellectual Property Group, were lauded for their consistently solid work in Media + Entertainment: Copyright and Contract Dispute law.  Clients including major recording artists, music publishers and recording companies described Zakarin as an “incredibly effective and extremely intelligent” litigator who is “very good in the heat of battle.”

Rose was distinguished for his “excellent client care skills” in his work with the Intellectual Property: Trademark and Copyright practice.  Clients enthused that they “turn to him on interesting and complicated trademark issues and find him to be a great resource for legal acumen and practical business advice.”

Notable representations within the Intellectual Property Group included a $48 million copyright suit brought by longtime client, EMI Music Publishing, against MP3tunes.com and its owner, Michael Robertson, for willful infringement.

Pryor Cashman is also proud to announce that Partner James Janowitz, chair of the firm’s Media + Entertainment Group, was highlighted for his work in Film & Television for the eighth consecutive year.  Janowitz is renowned for his skill and experience counseling clients from “both traditional and digital media companies” on film and television financing matters.

Closing out the individual honors was Partner Colleen Caden, chair of Pryor Cashman’s Immigration Group, whose unparalleled expertise and ability to provide “creative options” have made her “beloved” by clients who regard her as their go-to for business immigration matters. Her “diverse client roster” includes “pharmaceutical and media companies,” but she is particularly sought after for her “adept handling of sports-related immigration cases.”
