As social media continues to expand in both the volume and types of users and content, it’s imperative for both groups to understand what they can and can’t do with content on social.

Counsel Jamice A. Oxley, a member of Pryor Cashman’s Intellectual Property, Media + Entertainment, and Digital Media Groups will speak on this panel during the California Lawyers Association's 2021 Annual Meeting.

This panel will explore some of the newer developments affecting trademarks and copyrights for posted content, including:

  • How to legally use music in podcasts;
  • The dangers of celebrities and other public figures reposting photos of themselves they didn’t take;
  • Why celebrities and other public figures should register their professional names for trademark;
  • The new copyright registration protocol that allows bloggers and other creators of posted textual content to now economically at one time and for one fee, register many separate works/posts;
  • The new copyright “small claims” court, where certain infringement claims can be litigated very inexpensively.
