Katz Talks to Law360 About Joining Pryor Cashman Family Law Group
Pryor Cashman Partner Marcy Katz spoke with Law360 about joining the firm’s Family Law Group.
In “Pryor Cashman Adds McLaughlin & Stern Family Law Co-Chair,” Marcy discussed her particular approach to working with clients:
Katz [said] that she was attracted to family law because it helped synthesize her skills and talents, allowing her to work with clients on interpersonal issues and use her knowledge of sophisticated financial issues to help on related matters.
“A lot of people don’t think about that when they think about family law, but there’s definitely that kind of mathematical and financial component, which works to my strengths,” Katz said.
Katz said her practice additionally allows her to act as a funnel for her clients, who are often dealing with emotional aspects of family law disputes. It’s her job to ensure her clients are still focused on the legal issues at hand, despite those challenging feelings.
Acting as that partner, while taking her clients' issues into account while seeking amenable resolutions, was one of the aspects to her practice she found most rewarding, she said.
“It’s so emotional, you need someone who is going to find a way to say, ‘Listen, I know this is how you’re feeling, but these are the specific legal issues we have to resolve,’” she said. “And that’s my job, to focus on them and I think being able to do that for them, while allowing them to feel heard. When I do that well, I feel really good about it.”
