Pryor Cashman Slaps Down UK-Based Coyote Ugly Spinoff

The owner of a would-be “Coyote Ugly” themed bar set to open in Birmingham, England has abandoned plans to launch after receiving a legal warning from Pryor Cashman.

Muzamil Huq, an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group and part of the team which represents Ugly Inc. (“Ugly”) – the entity which owns the Coyote Ugly brand – contacted the UK venture to notify its owner that the use of the Coyote Ugly name and concept was an infringement of Ugly’s trademark rights.

Victoria Mancini, who owns the UK venture, told the Birmingham Mail that after speaking with Huq, she has decided not to pursue the concept as originally planned, and is instead “exploring other options – one of which is a potential franchise.”

Huq told the Mail, “Coyote Bar Birmingham was not authorized by our client Ugly Inc. to use the Coyote Ugly trademarks and genre. This [was a] clear violation of our client’s well-established and vigorously policed trademark rights. Miss Mancini has reassured us that all infringing activities have ceased.”
