Partner Joshua Zuckerberg Speaks to Financial Times About Dress Code Policies
Partner Joshua Zuckerberg, a member of Pryor Cashman’s Labor & Employment Group, was interviewed by The Financial Times for its December 23, 2010 article “Dress codes that suit the office.”
The article discusses the dress code implemented by UBS that includes suggestions that women wear flesh-colored underwear and that men wear tie knots that suit their bone structure.
When asked about the legalities of dress codes, Zuckerberg said that a dress code can be useful as long as an employer has non-discriminatory grounds for imposing one. “Professionalism is a legitimate reason, but you don’t want to be seen to be targeting one group by introducing a dress code. So men and women need to be told that they shouldn’t wear shirts, say, with more than two buttons undone.”
