Pryor Cashman Partner Wendy M. LaManque, a member of the firm’s Labor + Employment Group, was profiled in Law.com’s “How I Made Partner” series.

In the Q&A, “How I Made Partner: ‘Figure Out What Your Strengths Are and Capitalize on Them,’ Says Wendy LaManque of Pryor Cashman,” Wendy discusses the value of knowing your strengths, building client trust, finding the right firm fit, and maintaining perspective while advancing in the legal profession.

She reflects on what drew her to Pryor Cashman:

“I was looking for a firm with a good reputation, where my time and independence would be respected, and I would be fairly compensated without having to sacrifice my mental health or abandon my pursuits outside of work.”

Wendy also highlights the importance of earning client confidence early on:

“I think my ability to quickly gain the trust of some of the firm’s long-standing clients was a major deciding factor for the firm in making me partner. […] My clients’ satisfaction with my work allowed my colleagues to trust me with more responsibility early on—which made their lives easier, too.”

When asked what advice she would give associates who want to make partner, Wendy emphasizes the power of authenticity and personal strengths:

“Your personality and your unique strengths are your superpowers. Figure out what they are and capitalize on them. Any lawyer can read and analyze a case. Any lawyer can write a motion to dismiss. Only you can bring your particular set of skills and abilities to the table.”
