The Hollywood Reporter, Esq. has again named Senior Partner James A. Janowitz as one of Hollywood’s “Power Lawyers” in its annual feature recognizing the top 100 attorneys in entertainment law. This marks the fifth appearance for Janowitz on this prestigious list.

Hollywood Reporter, Esq. canvassed the entertainment landscape to determine the attorneys behind the year’s biggest deals and cases. Candidates were evaluated against their peers (litigators vs. litigators, dealmakers vs. dealmakers) to compile the list of the top 100.

In its profile of Janowitz, Hollywood Reporter, Esq.notes: “The veteran New York-based lawyer who once won a copyright infringement trial against George Harrison over My Sweet Lord now handles deals and litigation, though he’s generated Hollywood news mostly on the lawsuit front lately. He won a summary judgment dismissal of a case claiming copyright infringement against Sylvester Stallone, Lionsgate and Nu-Image over the script for The Expendables and had the unenviable task of representing Courtney Love in one of her Twitter defamation lawsuits. (They no longer work together.)”

Janowitz was asked by Hollywood Reporter, Esq. what was the worst thing ever said to him. He responded that Roger Corman, during negotiations to buy his company, said to Janowitz: "I want you to throw in the Jaguar for free."

Janowitz is Chair of Pryor Cashman’s Entertainment Group and a senior partner in the Litigation Group, where he focuses on complex commercial litigation. He has also led numerous complex multi-picture financings as well as the financing of individual pictures and other assets. He devotes significant attention to representing senior executives of major studios and major film companies in connection with their employment agreements, the structuring of benefits and disputes which may occur.
