FTC Announces Major Overhaul of Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule

Pryor Cashman Partner Robert deBrauwere, co-chair of the firm's Digital Media Practice Group, and Partner Jeffrey Johnson of the Digital Media Practice, have written an informative legal update entitled "FTC Announces Major Overhaul of Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule."

The Federal Trade Commission has announced final amendments to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule that refine almost all aspects of the current regulatory regime. These amendments, which become effective July 1, 2013, will require websites and services directed to or used by children younger than 13 years of age to modify the collection, disclosure and retention of their users’ personal information. deBrauwere, Johnson and Braibanti, have taken a closer look at the new amendments and how these changes will affect website operators.
