Jaffe Talks to Law360 About Joining Pryor Cashman M+E Group
Pryor Cashman Partner Benjamin Jaffe, a member of the Media + Entertainment Group and co-chair of the Digital Media Practice, talked with Law360 about his move to the firm this week.
In “Pryor Cashman Adds Digital Media Practice Co-Chair In NY,” Ben says:
“We have a great media and entertainment group, and the idea of being able to add to the practice group with a larger platform to offer a truly full set of services to our clients was really attractive… I want to continue to develop what’s already a fantastic group and build it into what I believe will be a true top-tier media and entertainment practice.”
Ben also discusses the roots and future of the digital focus of his practice:
With a musical background and a degree in business from Emory University, Jaffe said he started his career in digital media before deciding to pursue law, adding that he became a lawyer because of the constant exposure in his former career to various legal matters, such as rights issues and contracts, among others.
“What I love about the practice is that it's always changing,” he said. “I’m constantly facing new things to figure out, things that don't have existing precedent. Being able to work with companies in both a business affairs and legal perspective to strategize and take them in the direction they want to go is the most rewarding aspect to me.”
Going forward, Jaffe said that one of the main developments that will be of major focus in the media industry will be the increased overlap of different types of media, adding that the identification and preparation for the changes in media distribution and consumption are going to be more important for clients in the coming years.
“Nowadays, everything is coming closer and closer together,” he said. “Content from one niche is rolling over into a different one, and I think the term ‘transmedia’ is one you're starting to hear more often. The integration of the way in which people consume media is going to continue, whether that’s TV and games, podcasting and video content, or music and [non-fungible tokens]. The segregation between the different media verticals are continuing to just meld together.”
