Pryor Cashman Represents Indigo Books and Music in Lease for First U.S. Store
Pryor Cashman served as local counsel to Toronto-based Indigo Books and Music in its first expansion into the U.S. market. Led by Bradley Kaufman, co-chair of the firm’s Commercial + Retail Leasing practice, and Andrea Gendel, Indigo signed a lease for a 30,000 square foot space at the Mall in Short Hills, New Jersey. The transaction was finalized on October 31, 2017.
The new store, which was previously occupied by Saks Fifth Avenue, is expected to open its doors in Summer 2018.
Indigo plans to launch three to five additional U.S. stores over the next two years. The brand is regarded as a “cultural department store,” whose offerings differ from traditional large format bookstores; in addition to books, Indigo stocks gifts and baby and lifestyle items. Indigo presently operates 89 superstores and 123 small-format stores across Canada.
News of this deal was also reported in The Financial Post.
