Pryor Cashman was once again recognized as an outstanding law firm by The Legal 500 United States Awards. Thirteen individual partners were lauded for their exceptional achievements, while the firm’s Intellectual Property, Labor + Employment and Corporate Groups were named among the best in the country. Acclaimed as a “value for money firm,” this is Pryor Cashman’s ninth consecutive year on the Legal 500 list.
Group Awards
The formidable Intellectual Property – Copyright practice was highlighted for numerous successful representations including its work on behalf of EMI against MP3Tunes founder, Michael Robertson, for willful copyright infringement.
In addition to the Group’s “steady flow of work from its many clients in the music industry, including Sony, BMG and Universal Music Group,” Legal 500 noted its “frequent [engagement] by motion picture studios such as Lionsgate, Nu Image, and The Weinstein Company.”
Also recognized for excellence was the Labor + Employment – Immigration practice, described by clients as “provid[ing] the most appropriate, pragmatic advice with both the company’s and employees’ best interests at heart.” Legal 500 emphasized the Group’s “particular focus on sports immigration law,” saying, “it is one of the few firms in New York offering specialized immigration counsel to foreign athletes.”
“Stand[ing] out both for complex transactions and its financing credentials” was the M&A: Middle Market – Sub $500M practice. The group earned honors for several representations including acting for insurance brokerage firm DeWitt Stern in its sale to an affiliate of Risk Strategies Company; advising transportation and logistics services provider Service By Air on its sale to Radiant Global Logistics; and acting for Quaker Pet Group in its merger with Worldwise.
Attorney Honors
Returning to the list for their distinction within the field of litigation were Pryor Cashman partners Donald Zakarin (who chairs the firm’s Litigation Group), Frank Scibilia, Tom Ferber and Brad Rose (who chairs the firm's IP Group), all of whom were individually recommended.
Similarly, partners Colleen Caden (chair of the firm’s Immigration Group), Alice Stock and the “highly responsive” Avram Morell were recommended for their skill and experience in immigration law. Morell was praised by clients for his “personal yet objective approach.”
Rounding out the individual honors were partners and Corporate co-chairs, Eric Hellige and John Crowe, who were recommended for their work in middle market M&A. Legal 500 described Hellige as “a veteran of complex M&A who has closed acquisitions and sales for clients from the energy, technology, information services, mining, pharmaceutical, consulting and financial services sectors” and emphasized that Crowe is “particularly attuned to the needs of middle-market companies seeking acquisition opportunities.”
