Jamie Brickell is a Senior Counsel in Pryor Cashman’s Litigation Group.
During more than 40 years at the firm, Jamie has built an expansive practice that allows him to handle a wide variety of complex commercial cases, antitrust, securities fraud and RICO matters, and intellectual property litigation. He has extensive experience in bench and jury trials, arbitrations, mediations, and settlement negotiations.
Jamie’s diverse client base includes small- to mid-cap companies, entrepreneurs, partnerships, joint ventures, large patent-licensing firms, and international trusts. Many clients are high-profile corporations, individuals, and agents in the entertainment (including music, television, and motion pictures) and sports sectors. Jamie also has a history of impressive wins for medical professionals, shareholder groups, telecommunications firms, and technology companies, recovering more than $10 million for clients on multiple occasions.
Representing plaintiffs and defendants in commercial litigation, Jamie handles cases related to breach of contract, earn-out disputes, non-compete agreements, trade secrets, fraudulent inducement claims, and the rights of parties in partnerships and closely held corporations.
Taking on Bet-the-Company Litigation
Throughout his career, Jamie has been the lawyer of choice for clients with significant financial and business interests at stake.
Four major victories illustrate his effective advocacy on behalf of his clients:
- Obtaining a $58 million federal court jury verdict for a plaintiff in a month-long fraud trial against a publicly held pharmaceutical company
- Winning an award in excess of $10 million for a healthcare industry client in an arbitration conducted in Chicago
- Earning a favorable decision for a telecommunications patent licensing company that resulted in a $20+ million award
- Settling litigation brought against a private equity firm on behalf of investors for in excess of $10 million in connection with claims of wrongful fees and misappropriation
Jamie’s record of success is anchored by his ability to master enormous volumes of information and evidence. No matter how complex the legal and factual issues are, he presents clear and compelling arguments to support his clients’ cases, striving for outcomes that favor both their brands and their bottom lines.
A Personal Approach to Pro Bono and Community Engagement
Jamie is a recent survivor of pancreatic cancer. He was fortunate enough to have had his cancer detected at an early stage when it was treatable with chemo and the Whipple operation. Understanding the widespread need for more tools and resources for early detection, Jamie joined the board of directors of TrovaNow, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fundraising for the Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection (PRECEDE) Consortium, a collection of research centers and hospitals worldwide (founded by his surgeon, Dr. Diane Simeone) whose primary focus is early detection for the disease. He now serves as the president of TrovaNow, and Pryor Cashman and a number of its attorneys have not only donated financially to the cause, but have also provided much-needed pro bono legal support. The goal of PRECEDE is to increase the five-year survival rate for people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer from 12% to 50% within the next 10 years. Jamie, his wife, and their children also have participated in a number of community service efforts, including a trip to New Orleans and Baton Rouge following Hurricane Katrina to bring supplies to FEMA trailer camps and take part in outreach programs, and a community service trip to Cuba in 2012.
In 1982, Jamie became Pryor Cashman’s first summer associate. He became a partner in 1991 and has spent his entire career at the firm.
