Partner Jeffrey Alberts Comments on Cashing In on Seized Bitcoins

Jeffrey Alberts, partner and head of Pryor Cashman's White Collar Defense and Investigations practice, spoke with Reuters for its article “The U.S. government's bitcoin bonanza: How, where and when to sell,” and discussed how U.S. authorities can liquidate the bitcoins seized from Silk Road.
U.S. Marshals regularly auction off seized goods or even repurpose them for government use. "While Bitcoin is a somewhat new form of asset, it's not unusual for them to have to find out how to liquidate a new asset," said Alberts, a former federal prosecutor. "This won't be difficult for them, whether they do it through an exchange or find a buyer who wants to buy it directly from them."
