Pryor Cashman Partner Simon Pulman, co-chair of the Media + Entertainment and Film, TV + Podcast Groups; Partner Joshua Weigensberg, a member of the Litigation and Media + Entertainment Groups; and Associate Parmida Enkeshafi, a member of the Litigation Group, participated in “Video Game and eSports Representation: Player Contracts, Compliance and Regulatory Issues, IP Rights, Data Privacy, and Gambling Considerations,” a webinar presented by myLawCLE.

The video game industry has grown larger than movies, television, and music. Intellectual property has always been a key driver in the business. Pryor Cashman’s IP attorneys are focused on protecting and monetizing IP assets while managing IP-related risks.

On their panel, “Emerging Issues in Videogame IP Rights,” Simon, Josh, and Parmida explored a number of current rights issues, key protections and pitfalls, and transmedia considerations for video game developers and publishers.

The panel began with Simon discussing unique issues for developers and rights holders when adapting video games and for counsel who negotiate such deals. Josh and Parmida then explored various IP protections, risks and best practices that video game developers should be aware of, including in connection with protecting valuable assets such as iconic game characters and when using generative artificial intelligence (AI) during development.
