Charron Speaks at Aspen Institute’s Artist-Endowed Foundations Initiative
On November 7, 2016, Litigation Partner William Charron spoke at The Aspen Institute’s Artist-Endowed Foundations Initiative, held at the Morgan Library in New York City. Bill, who co-chairs Pryor Cashman’s Art Law Group, appeared both on behalf of the firm and as an Advisory Board Member of “Authentication in Art” (AiA) to present a new initiative by AiA to create a specialized international alternative dispute resolution (ADR) tribunal for the resolution of art authentication disputes.
Working in cooperation with the Netherlands Arbitration Institute, which will provide administrative and procedural rule-making support, AiA is developing an ADR body to handle arbitrations and mediations of authenticity disputes occurring anywhere in the world at the agreement of the disputing parties.
AiA intends to assemble an international pool of potential arbitrators and mediators who are well-versed in litigating such disputes, from which parties may select either a single or 3-person panel of arbitrators and mediators. Additionally, AiA plans to create an independent advisory panel of art authentication experts, drawn from the fields of art history, connoisseurship and forensic science, to assist the arbitrating and mediating panels in their work.
AiA hopes to launch its ADR tribunal in 2018.
