Pryor Cashman Attorneys Named “Legal Lions” Following Stunning Second Circuit Copyright Victory
Following a major appellate victory in a copyright infringement suit before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Pryor Cashman intellectual property attorneys Brad D. Rose, Ilene S. Farkas and Rebecca Siegel have been named to Law360’s “Legal Lions” list.
At issue in this action were claims brought by a musician alleging that Pryor Cashman’s clients – some of hip hop’s biggest names – infringed his copyright in a little known 2008 song by releasing a piece in 2011 with the same title and “certain musical similarities.”
In response to the arguments set forth by the firm’s “legal lions,” the Second Circuit affirmed the lower court’s decision dismissing the case in its entirety, finding that no copyrightable elements of plaintiff’s song were infringed and no reasonable juror could conclude that the two songs were substantially similar.
