Avoiding Visa Delays for US-Bound Pro Athletes

Partner Colleen Caden, Chair of Pryor Cashman’s Immigration Law Group, and associate Dina Kleyman authored the SportsPro magazine article entitled “Avoiding Visa Delays for US-Bound Pro Athletes.”
Caden and Kleyman describe the steps necessary to successfully obtain the Professional Athlete work visa, P-1. The P-1 visa is for athletes who are internationally recognized and have achieved a high level of recognition in their sport. Unlike the temporary B-1 visa, the P-1 allows the athlete to compete on behalf of the team and be paid in the U.S. pursuant to his contract.
