You may have seen the news that Vice President Vance, along with leaders from the U.S. Departments of Labor and Justice, announced on Thursday, October 8, that the government will halt PERM Labor Certification applications from several large technology companies, including Microsoft, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL Technologies, and Capgemini.

At the same time, the government announced that it would be investigating nine major U.S. universities for the potential misuse of the J-1 visa program: Harvard University, Yale University, Stanford University, Brown University, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of California, Davis, the California Institute of Technology, Arizona State University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Details remain limited, but we are carefully monitoring this developing situation. In the coming days and weeks, as more information becomes available and the scope of these actions becomes clearer, we will work with clients to understand the implications of these actions for other employers, as well as for the broader business immigration landscape.
