His work has included a range of notable matters:

  • Securing a $44 million judgment against Starwood Hotels after a 9 week trial relating to the development of a luxury hotel on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale;
  • Achieving a precedent-setting appellate win for the owners of the Eden Roc Hotel in Miami;
  • Winning a $13 million trial victory for Virgin Hotels following a month-long bench trial.
  • Leading a team of Pryor Cashman real estate, corporate and finance attorneys in representing Cirrus Realty Partners in a complex series of loan acquisitions secured by high-profile real estate, ultimately gaining control over valuable collateral including the Atlantic Yards development sites in Brooklyn and Hotel Indigo in Downtown Los Angeles.
  • For Deka Immobilien, a German pension fund, he has handled multiple disputes involving the Marriott East Side Hotel in Manhattan, including matters relating to Marriott’s performance under its Hotel Management Agreement and disputes with the UNITE HERE union relating to severance and withdrawal liability.
  • Successfully challenged the enforcement mechanisms of New York State’s 421-a real estate tax abatement program, defeating a $40 million claim brought by the New York City Comptroller against an affiliate of BLDG Management.
  • Representing the principal of a family office in litigation brought by family members seeking to challenge control of closely held assets.

Todd is a prolific writer and speaker on issues shaping the hospitality, real estate, and real estate finance industries. He authors a quarterly column for the New York Law Journal and regularly contributes to industry panels, publications, and conferences. He serves on the Board of Trustees at Brandeis University and remains actively involved in both professional and philanthropic communities, including the UJA Federation’s Real Estate Division.
