Morell Named Vice Chair of AILA Liaison Committee; Discusses Employer Obligations and Government Enforcement with DOJ/DHS
Avram Morell, a partner in Pryor Cashman’s Immigration Group, was recently named Vice Chair of the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s (AILA) national Verification and Worksite Enforcement Liaison Committee.
The committee is responsible for liaising, on behalf of the AILA’s 14,000 member lawyers, with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in Washington, DC on the government’s policy and practice regarding employers’ obligations to verify the work eligibility of employees and avoid immigration-related discrimination. As enforcement of these laws, which carry significant penalties, continues to be a major priority of the government, this liaison work is especially important to employers and their legal representatives.
Morell, who is ranked both nationally and locally by Chambers USA in the field of immigration law, represented AILA before the DOJ and DHS at May 3, 2016 sessions in D.C., liaising with numerous high level representatives on issues related to employer obligations and government enforcement policy. He was the sole lawyer from the NY/NJ area invited to participate in the meetings.
