New York City Bar Association Copyright & Literary Committee
Pryor Cashman Counsel Andrew Goldsmith and Associate Brian Maida, both members of the Litigation Group, gave a presentation to the New York City Bar Association Copyright & Literary Committee regarding the firm’s successful representation of Ed Sheeran in the singer-songwriter’s high-profile copyright trial.
Andrew discussed the firm’s approach to defending Sheeran in Griffin et al. v. Sheeran et al., in which heirs of Ed Townsend, who co-wrote the Marvin Gaye hit “Let’s Get It On,” claimed that Sheeran and co-writer Amy Wadge copied elements of the 1973 song in their 2014 hit “Thinking Out Loud.”
The jury returned a verdict in favor of Sheeran after just 2.5 hours of deliberation.
Andrew and Brian were part of the team representing Sheeran, along with Partners Donald Zakarin and Ilene Farkas.
