Joseph Micali is a partner in Pryor Cashman’s Patent Prosecution and Litigation Practice and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Litigation Groups, where he provides strategic counsel on domestic and international patent matters for pioneering innovators, emerging companies, and multinational corporations.
Joseph handles all aspects of patent prosecution practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), as well as managing international filings and foreign patent portfolios. He represents clients in disputes involving patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, Lanham Act violations, unfair competition, and licensing agreements before the USPTO, U.S. district courts, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, among others. He also assists clients in the preparation of various intellectual property transaction documents and agreements and the performance of intellectual property due diligence for financing and corporate transactions.
Joseph’s experience includes:
- Telebrands Corp. v. Ragner Technology Corp. (District of New Jersey), defending and asserting patent infringement claims relating to expandable hose technology.
- Uni-Systems, LLC v. United States Tennis Association (Eastern District of New York), defending an engineering firm in a case involving patent infringement and complex trade secret misappropriation claims, bringing the case to a successful resolution through mediation.
- RDPA, LLC v. Geopath, Inc. (Southern District of New York), defending against patent infringement claim concerning advertising monitoring systems.
He previously served as a U.S. patent examiner with the USPTO, handing patent applications in the chemical and material engineering arts.
