We are deeply saddened by the recent passing of longtime Pryor Cashman partner Philip Hoffman, who died of COVID-19 complications on March 31st, 2020. To many, Phil was the heart and soul of our firm, epitomizing and perpetuating the culture that we cherish. Phil’s kindness and commitment to us all knew no bounds and sustained so many during his 35-plus years at the firm. He was always available for a chat that invariably lifted one’s spirits at any time of day or night—and he mentored legions of lawyers who learned from him how to practice law at the highest level with both enthusiasm and good humor. Phil’s contributions to our firm are immeasurable, as is his loss.

Wholly devoted to his family, Phil was also an impassioned New York Ranger fan and Broadway aficionado. He leaves behind his wife Eileen, son Patrick, daughter Kerry, two grandchildren, and countless others who were blessed enough to know, learn from, and laugh with him.

As we are currently unable to celebrate Phil’s life in person during this pandemic, we have compiled a number of memories, stories and thoughts from those who knew him best and have shared them here.
