For the second year in a row, Pryor Cashman has been named a “Top 150 Under 150” midsize firm by Vault. The Vault list, which debuted in 2015, “recognizes outstanding law firms with fewer attorneys, but no less expertise, than the global megafirms that often dominate rankings.”

Pryor Cashman was also recognized in the newly-established “Midsize Quality of Life” category for consistently providing associates with high quality substantive work. The Quality of Life results were derived from Vault’s Law Firm Associate Survey, in which associates rate and comment on various aspects of their work life.

Associate Life at Pryor Cashman

Associates at Pryor Cashman benefit from a nearly one-to-one partner-to-associate ratio, which allows them to work directly with partners from the onset of their careers. And because matters are staffed leanly – with rarely more than two or three lawyers on a given project – associates get substantive, real world experience from day one: writing briefs, arguing motions, drafting corporate documents, and otherwise rolling their sleeves up to help meaningfully with the work of practicing law.

We are dedicated to getting our associates “on their feet” as early as possible, so we enlist even our most junior newcomers to participate in strategy sessions, assist at closings, attend depositions, deal with opposing counsel, and confer with clients.

Top 150 Under 150 Methodology

To determine the Top 150 Under 150, Vault’s editorial and research teams pored through Vault survey data, news stories, trade journals and other legal publications; spoke with lawyers in the field and reviewed other published rankings. Vault editors also assessed each firm for prestige, quality of life and growth opportunities, and then narrowed down the results to come up with a list of 150 law firms known for providing top-notch service and delivering big results.

As it would be impossible, and not particularly helpful, to compare an IP boutique with 30 lawyers in Palo Alto to a full-service firm with 145 attorneys in Boston, the firms are not ranked. Rather, the Top 150 Under 150 is a recognition of leading law firms with fewer attorneys, but no less expertise, than the global megafirms that often dominate rankings and headlines.
