Howard-Potter to Speak on Gift Tax Returns at ABA Tax Meeting
Pryor Cashman Partner Erica Howard-Potter, a member of the Private Client Group and Trusts + Estates Practice, will be speaking at the ABA Section of Taxation's 2025 May Tax Meeting.
The program, titled “How to Shine With Your 709 (A Deep Dive into Gift Tax Returns),” will focus on the critical role that proper disclosure and preparation of gift tax returns play in a client’s overall wealth transfer planning. The session will cover key updates to Form 709, common mistakes to avoid, and nuanced topics such as adequate disclosure rules, the distinction between gift tax splitting and GST tax splitting, reporting gifts subject to an ETIP, the application of DSUE by a surviving spouse, and making GST allocation elections.
