Partner Eric Hellige Interviewed About Financing for Brazil’s Middle Market
Partner Eric Hellige, Chair of Pryor Cashman’s Corporate Group, was interviewed by International Financial Law Review for its November 23, 2011 article “New financing for Brazil’s middle market.”
According to the article, a venture loan program has paved the way for foreign investors to gain exposure to established companies in Brazil’s middle market. US-based Resource Holdings has issued an $11.4 million note, allowing it to make its first loan under a unique capital program targeting the country’s gold mining operations, and which will be extended to small to mid-cap companies in other sectors. The loan chain stretched from West Ventures, a US asset-based lending company, to Resource Holdings and then down to Reginaldo Luiz de Almeida Ferreira, a 30-year gold mine operator based in Cuiabá.
Hellige, who represented West Ventures in the transaction, told the publication, “venture capital investments in Brazil are relatively new concepts; it’s been difficult for many of them to get financing.”
