Legal 500 Recognizes Pryor Cashman's Copyright and Corporate Practices
Pryor Cashman LLP is pleased to announce that two practice areas and five attorneys were recognized by The Legal 500 United States 2013 edition. The firm was recognized for its copyright work handled by leading attorneys Brad Rose, Donald Zakarin, Frank Scibilia and Tom Ferber, and for its transactional work in the middle-market M&A space. In this section, the guide specifically highlights the work of Corporate Partner Eric Hellige.
The prestigious rankings are driven by independent interviews with clients and peer law firms across the country. The Legal 500 U.S. is the only guide to recommend firms on a national basis, and in 2013 recommended just 311 firms.
According to the guide, in the Intellectual Property – Copyright space, “Pryor Cashman LLP acts for major entertainment companies and associations but is particularly well-known for its experience in the music sector. It represents leading record labels and music publishers on copyright licensing and due diligence work as well as handling litigation for high-profile music artists, with clients including Capitol Records, EMI and Sony/BMG. The firm successfully represented Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin in obtaining a dismissal of copyright infringement claims regarding the plaintiff artist’s song "Nikita."
The Legal 500 U.S. also notes that, “Key attorneys are IP practice chair Brad Rose, entertainment, media and publishing industries litigator Tom Ferber, litigation practice head Donald Zakarin and digital media specialist Frank Scibilia.”
Commentary in the guide also shines a spot light on Pryor Cashman’s work in other industries, “Outside the music sector, it won dismissal of a copyright infringement case on behalf of defendants Sylvester Stallone, Lions Gate Films and Nu Image/Millennium Films.”
The firm is also recognized for its work in the M&A middle market sector. The Legal 500 U.S. notes that clients say, “Pryor Cashman LLP ‘gives practical legal advice’. Adding that, “The team acts not only as outside general counsel for the day-to-day legal concerns of its clients, but also handles their large complex transactions and financings, representing institutional and entrepreneurial clients, from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, with a special focus on companies in the middle market.”
The Legal 500 U.S. also singles out Eric Hellige, Chairman of Pryor Cashman's Corporate Group for the feedback received from clients, “New York-based Eric Hellige heads the corporate and securities practice. Hellige is ‘always available’.”
